Improve your backswing

Here are the three backswing checkpoints you need to know to really upgrade the repeatability and quality of your motion:

  1. Starting with the takeaway position from the address, as you move your golf club back, your first point of reference is going to be when the club shaft is parallel to the ground. The angle between your forearm and your glove should be relatively flat, when starting in the address position there may be a little bit of a cup but then as you move the golf club back into the first parallel, your left wrist should be flat.

  1. As you begin to make your backswing, by the time the lead arm is parallel, turn your lower body and chest with your hands in front of the sternum. I often see players pull the golf club back with their arms and sternum facing down towards the ball while their arms are starting to move back behind their bodies from the setup position.

  1. At the top of the swing, the main thing is the distance between the elbows. The main error that I see players make in this stage is the separation of the arms to the top and the right elbow for the right-hander moving back and behind their body.
